Dhanwantari Trayodashi - Real-ize your Real Health

Samudra Manthana (The churning of the Milky Ocean) brought to the planet Earth today

1. Dhanwantari - God of Health (He holds an Amruta kalasha - a pot of nectar in the left hand and a Jalouka - medicinal Leech in the right hand) emerged on this Trayodashi day of Sharad Ritu (Autumn season)

2. On the same day did emerge Goddess Lakshmi and Kubera (the Goddess and God of wealth). Sadly, everyone has comfortably shifted their priority to Lakshmi and Kubera only and forgotten Dhanwantari !

Samudra Manthana can be correlated to churning of our various mental states: Conscious, Un-conscious, Sub-conscious and Super-conscious states. This is a process that we need to systematically observe and understand where we stand at this point of time.

Health is wealth cannot be a mere statement, it is true in all respects.

These 3 gems who emerged need to be perceived in the true sense. Dhanwantari represents 'Satva'; Goddess Lakshmi represents 'Rajas'; Kubera represents 'Tamas'. Satva-Rajas-Tamas are called the 'Triguna', which are the 3 layers of the 'Manas' (Mind)

- Satva Guna qualities:

Peaceful

Self-Discipline

Hard-working

Dhārmic (just and fair)

not Skin-deep

Gratitude

Living with minimum requirements

Helps one’s self and others

- Rajas Guna qualities:

Over-ambitious

Restless

always Searching for something

Talking without Contemplating

Over-excitement

Fanciful

Helps others if self-benefiting

Greed

- Tamas Guna qualities:

Laid-back

High Expectations

Laziness

Procrastination

Complaining

Insensitive

Superficial

Self-centered

Lord Dhanwantari represents the unique doctor in each of the living creatures. Let us bow down to Him with reverence because of whom we are all still alive. All the mysterious physico-chemical reactions taking place every second with utmost responsibility and sincerity is what we need to be ever-grateful and fascinated about.

When our Mind is absolved in our ātmā (Soul), it is Health; this is our true nature.

When our Mind deviates to worldly affairs (rāgādi rogān – Greed, Attachment, Jealousy, Anger, Fear, Worry, etc.) we become Un-natural. This is Dis-ease.

So, if we live a natural life, the ‘Sacred Doctor’ (apūrva vaidya) in us in Alive. He is the one who heals us miraculously. We salute to that Sacred doctor in ALL of us!

Let us contemplate on this transforming sūtra (statement) on this auspicious day of ‘Dhanwantari Trayodashi’ to Real-ize our Real Health.
